Lancaster University - a premier place to learn

Located in 560 acres of parkland at Bailrigg, 3 miles from Lancaster city centre, Lancaster University has over the years garnered a formidable reputation. It regularly ranks in the top 10 of all three major national league tables, and also fares well internationally. The university is almost a town in its own right, with banks, shops, cafes and pre-school areas. The Nuffield Theatre hosts theatre, contemporary dance and live art events, and the Peter Scott Gallery displays contemporary art to the public free of charge.

Over a thousand years of history at Lancaster Castle

Often known as John O'Gaunt's Castle, who was once the Duke of Lancaster, Lancaster Castle is less than 3 miles from the university. In Roman times the fortress defended Lancaster against ancient Scots. From the witch trials that took place there in the 17th century, to more recent years when it was used as a prison, the castle offers a wealth of history to interest people of all ages.

Lancaster Brewery - a fascinating day for anyone who likes a tipple

Two miles from Lancaster University, Lancaster Brewery is one of the largest micro breweries in the north west. Today's state-of-the-art equipment is a far cry from its beginnings in an old shed on the outskirts of the city. Tours of the facilities, followed by pork pies and pints of ale, keep visitors flocking back for more. Planning a trip to Lancaster University? Travelodge Lancaster Central Hotel is bang in the centre of the city, and Travelodge Morecambe Hotel is only 5 miles out.
