More than just cakes - shopping heaven Near Eccles

Its name is famous for traditional Lancashire Eccles cakes but this Manchester suburb is much more with the delights of the Trafford Centre - Britain's second largest shopping mall - just next door. With more than 1,000 retailers, parking for 11,500 cars and Europe's largest food court, The Orient, it really is shopping heaven. Got children who are are tired of shopping? LEGOLAND Discovery Centre with new LEGO Ninjago ride, plus SEA LIFE Manchester are right on site. For a little more adventure try the high ropes at Aerial Extreme or the ski slopes at Chill Factore in Trafford City.

Hip and happening Manchester

With a regular train service running from Eccles into Manchester, it's the perfect spot to sample the delights of the northern capital of cool. There's cutting edge art at the Whitworth Art Gallery, more culture at the waterfront Quays - and obviously no visit is complete without catching some live music at one of the city's many hip bars and clubs.

More surprises at Eccles

Eccles has even more to offer than shopping and access to the city - for something more unusual head to the City Airport and Heliport where you can watch the planes or have a go in the flight simulator. For sports fans The Old Trafford is close by or take a trip to Ordsall Hall, a Grade I listed Tudor house slap bang in the middle of Salford. Planning a trip to Eccles?
