Make a great discovery at the University of Leicester
Founded in 1921 as a living memorial to the First World War, the University of Leicester's main campus can be found in the centre of the city close to Victoria Park. While the university has been involved in many major projects down the years, perhaps its most famous was when in 2013 it was confirmed that researchers had discovered the lost grave of Richard III underneath a car park.
Immerse yourself in the city's history
Visitors to Leicester can explore the city's history and links to the monarch at the King Richard III Visitor Centre, which also features the original burial site where he was found. No visit to the city would be complete without a trip to Leicester Cathedral, which was originally constructed 900 years ago, but underwent a significant restoration around a century ago.
Journey to the stars
There is much more to Leicester than history. The National Space Centre in the city opened in 2001 and features a range of exhibitions about man's efforts to learn more about the universe, including two impressive full-size rockets.
