Explore England's largest sand dunes

Surrounding the village of Braunton, which is located in one of Devon's most beautiful areas, are the famous sand dunes. The rolling dunes - called Braunton Burrows - are considered to be the biggest in the country. They are often covered in grass and are home to hundreds of different local flora and a variety of wildlife.

Surf and sand at Braunton's beaches

Braunton, which is often said to be the country's biggest village, is also home to some of the country's best surfing. Croyde Bay has the best surfing in the south-west and has plenty of amenities to go with it from beach shacks to campsites. The closest beach to Braunton is Saunton Sands - a 3-mile long stretch of golden sand.

Walk through Braunton Marshes

Move inland away from the coast and you'll find even more nature in the form of Braunton Marshes. This large area of wet pastureland was reclaimed from the sea in the 19th century. Today, you can walk through the fields and wetlands, past the historic Braunton Great Field, to see its wonderful wildlife. It's also the ideal spot for a family picnic. Planning a trip to Braunton?
