20th December 2006

Today, Hereford gets an early Christmas present with the official opening of a new £2 million Travelodge in the city. The Right Worshipful, the Mayor of Hereford, Councillor Robert Preece and local school boy, Callum Lane, officially opened Hereford Travelodge. The 52-room hotel represents a £2 million investment by Travelodge in the city and was built in record time to ensure it was open for Christmas.

To celebrate the opening and recognise Hereford's famous connections with the SAS (Special Air Service), two stunt men abseiled from the roof of the two-storey hotel and controlled pyrotechnics were set off to the wow the crowd.

Hereford Travelodge has created 20 new jobs within the community and will offer rooms from as little as £15. Situated at Pomona Place, Hereford, HR4 0EF, the new Travelodge is ideally located for business and leisure travellers.

To celebrate the official opening of Hereford Travelodge, pupils from Lord Scudamore Primary School were set a project of drawing their dream bedroom. The Right Worshipful, the Mayor of Hereford, Councillor Robert Preece selected the winning picture, which was drawn by Callum Lane, aged 10 years.

Callum won a weekend stay at a UK Travelodge of his choice for his family and his picture will be hung in the hotel reception area. All participating children were awarded a goodie bag.

The Right Worshipful, the Mayor of Hereford, Councillor Robert Preece said: "I was delighted to be involved in the official opening of Hereford Travelodge. Budget accommodation is very welcome in our city as we have a severe shortage and we expect the new Travelodge will attract many more visitors to the area. Equally importantly, the hotel has created 20 jobs which is a boost to our local economy."

Paul Waters, Hereford Travelodge's Manager, said: "There is a desperate need for low-cost accommodation within Hereford and our new Travelodge hotel will help to fill this demand. It's situated on the main ring road at Pomona Place which is an ideal location for business and leisure travellers who need quick and easy access to Hereford and its surrounding areas. Local residents can also benefit by accommodating family and friends at the hotel to avoid the additional stress at home, which is ideal for the festive season ahead. We offer a comfortable room from as little as £15, which is the smart choice for any type of stop-over."

Hereford Travelodge will offer a choice of either Family, Double or Disabledaccess rooms. Each room provides a comfortable setting with en-suite bathroom, luxury king size bed, colour TV and free tea and coffee making facilities.
