11th December 2006

Santa Claus has arrived early this year to join the Mayor of Barnstaple, Councillor Sue Haywood to officially open Barnstaple Travelodge. The 45-room hotel has created 20 new jobs within the community and will offer rooms from £15*.

Barnstaple Travelodge is a £1.8 million investment for the town and was built in a record time of just 40 weeks. It is ideally located for the business and leisure traveller and is situated on the main road into Barnstaple (A39) at Roundwell Services, A39 Barnstaple By-Pass, Barnstaple, EX31 3RZ.

To celebrate the opening, the hotel was transformed into an exclusive Grotto for Santa's visit and pupils from Sticklepath Primary School, who had been individually selected for their good behaviour during 2006, were given VIP passes to personally meet the man himself. The Grotto will now be donated to the South West Children's Hospice based in Barnstaple to give under-privileged children the chance to have their own personal Grotto for Santa to visit.

The Mayor of Barnstaple, Councillor Sue Haywood said: "Barnstaple Travelodge is a welcome new addition to our town. With the opening of the new down-stream bridge next year and the anticipation of an increase in tourism to the area, this new Travelodge will go a long way to facilitate the extra beds that will required along with bringing the bonus of much needed employment to the area"

Judy Swoish, Barnstaple Travelodge's Manager, said: "There is a desperate need for low-cost accommodation within the Barnstaple area. Our new Travelodge hotel is ideally located for visiting business and leisure travellers who need quick and easy access to the town and the A390. Local residents can also benefit by accommodating family and friends at the hotel to avoid the additional stress at home, which is ideal for the festive season ahead. We offer a comfortable room from as little as £15, which is the smart choice for any type of stop-over".

Barnstaple Travelodge will offer a choice of either Family, Double or Disabled access rooms. Each room provides a comfortable setting with en-suite bathroom, luxury king size bed, colour TV and free tea and coffee making facilities.

Barnstaple Travelodge is looking for enthusiastic, motivated and committed individuals to join their housekeeping team and there four positions.
