Travelodge opens its seventh hotel in Glasgow by Queen Elizabeth

Glasgow’s first branded budget hotel chain wants to continue to expand in the city with a further five hotels as part of its Scottish expansion programme to open a further 21 hotels

 

Collectively this Scottish Expansion programme would represent an investment of £125 million for third party investors and a job creation of 380

 

 

Today, Travelodge, Scotland’s first budget hotel chain has opened its 45th Scottish hotel by the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Govan. This is the company’s seventh hotel in Glasgow and its 578th within its portfolio.

 

Glasgow Govan Travelodge, a 60 room hotel with on-site restaurant called the Bar Café, is the closet hotel to the UK and Europe’s largest University hospital campus. It represents an investment of £5 million for the landlord and has created 15 new jobs within the community.          

 

At the official opening of Glasgow Govan Travelodge, the company’s 169th hospital location hotel, the brand announced that Scotland is a key development area and it is actively searching for a further 21 hotel sites which includes five hotels in Glasgow. Collectively this expansion programme of 21 hotels would represent an investment of £125million for third party investors and a job creation of 380 new jobs. 

 

Sites in Glasgow include: Glasgow (centre), Glasgow East M8, Glasgow SECC, Glasgow Silverburn, and Glasgow West End. The Glasgow expansion would represent an investment of £40million for third party investors into the city and would create 125 new jobs.       

 

The other locations where Travelodge is actively seeking hotel sites include:

Ardrossan, Aviemore, Galashiels, Kirkwall, Lerwick, Montrose and Pitlochry where Travelodge will build the town’s first branded hotel;  and East Kilbride, Dalkeith, Greenock, Hamilton/Motherwell, Loch Lomond, Newton Mearns, Oban and St Andrews where Travelodge will built its first hotel.  Travelodge is also looking for a second site in Falkirk.

Glasgow Govan Travelodge is being managed by Shelby McKinnon who received over 600 applications from locals to join the new team. Shelby was overwhelmed by the high calibre of applications she received, that she recruited her strong team of 15 in just three days.

In 2018, Travelodge opened a 54- room hotel with Bar Café in Inverness and a 74- room hotel with Bar Café in Stirling. These two hotels represent an investment of £11million for third party investors and created 48 new jobs. The company also upgraded its Edinburgh Central Travelodge to a TravelodgePLUS hotel – which is a new look budget chic hotel format. It is designed around the needs of the budget traveller who wants that little bit more style and choice.  TravelodgePLUS hotels offer a distinctive choice of rooms which include SuperRooms as well as a new style Bar Café with touches to make it easier to work and relax outside the room.
